How we started fostering, pt. 3/3
Getting Ready To Foster Care
Jessica writes: I recall the excitement and anticipation of beginning our foster care journey. We were venturing into new territory, putting our family into a season of celebrations, disruptions, challenges and endless possibilities. We were setting up one more chair at the table — a highchair, to be more specific! — at what would be the ever expanding table of our family home.
After about a year of fulfilling training days, home visits, and assessments, we were officially approved as foster carers — we had done it! The whole process of preparation and training had affected and shaped us profoundly. I don’t think we knew how much we needed the process until the gritty questions and eye-opening information came flooding in. It kickstarted something that was the Lord’s design for our lives.
The foster care journey came at a time when the Father was pruning back the dead branches of my faith and life, and revealing a sweet spot of where the new life and new fruit were to come (John 15:1-5).
